Spring clean Saturday!

Don’t forget the village spring clean! We’ll meet at the Village Hall at 11am on Saturday 28 March and blitz the parish as far as possible, picking up litter and cleaning road signs. The aim is for volunteers to devote no more than an hour of their time in an allocated zone; we just want to rid the parish verges of red bull cans, crisp packets, sandwich boxes, plastic bottles, coffee cups, cigarette packets, old tyres and kitchen sinks! We’ve got supplies of tabards and litter grabbers, but if you have your own please bring them if possible.

We’d really welcome volunteers. Please join us at 11 am with:

· any hi-viz wear you may possess (tabards/velcro strips, etc)
· hand wipes (if required)
· Sturdy footwear and gloves
· rubber gloves, buckets and cloths for sign cleaning

Older children are very welcome, but please supervise them. If you’re in an outlying area (or would like to work at a different time) it is fine to start to your litter-picking or sign-washing without coming up to the village hall at 11 am, but please let us know so we don’t duplicate effort, and so we can arrange to get litter pickers and bags to you.

The Health and Safety stuff:

Please wear appropriate non-slip supportive footwear, sturdy gloves and high-viz gear.
If working on kerb clearing, please ensure that someone is looking out for traffic approaching.
Be aware of traffic, particularly at the road junctions and on blind corners – work in pairs if necessary to ensure visibility.
Don’t attempt to work on the B road.
Don’t overfill boxes or wheelbarrows so they are too heavy to manoeuvre.Stay within sight of other volunteers.
Make sure that you cover any cuts and grazes and wash your hands after we’re finished!
There will be a first aid kit and hand sanitizer in the village hall
Please be aware of your capabilities and don’t try to do too much.
Don’t stand on hazardous surfaces such as steep banks or near water to try to clear kerbs.
Additionally, if collecting litter
–Use litter pickers
–Don’t lift any large or heavy objects – please let Gill or Jane know about these.
–Check that litter isn’t hazardous before lifting – again let Gill or Jane know about any hazards.
–Don’t stand on hazardous surfaces such as steep banks or near water to try to clear kerbs reach litter.

Please put bags of litter either just inside the Hill View entrance to the village hall grounds or leave on the verge for us to collect later.
